Three Card Rummy

Play three card rummy for fun

Vegas Three Card Rummy Vegas Three Card Rummy is a three card poker variant. It is very similar to 3 card poker, but the scoring system is completely different. The object of this game is to get fewer points than the dealer.

As with all three card games, 3 card rummy is played with only one 52 card deck. All cards are assigned points based upon the card's rank. All face cards are worth 10 points and all aces are always low (1 point). That means that Ace King suited is not a run.

You start by placing an Ante bet. At this time you also have the option to place a Bonus Bet, which is the equivalent of playing Pairs Plus in tri card poker. The way the Bonus Bet works will be explained later.

Both you and the dealer will receive three cards. Here is how the hands are scored:

Three Card Rummy Scoring System

Cards range in value from 1 (aces) to 10 points. This means the most points you can have is 30 for three non-pairing and non-consecutive suited face cards.

If you receive a pair, three of a kind or a run of two suited cards (two cards to a straight flush), then you will receive a score of zero for those 2+ cards.

This also means that the dealer can have two or more cards equal zero points.

You have the option to Play and match your initial bet, or Fold and forfeit your initial bet.

Vegas Three Card Rummy hand When the dealer's cards are turned over, the dealer must have 20 points or less to qualify. If the dealer does not qualify, you only win your initial Ante bet back. If the dealer qualifies and you win, then you win both the Ante and Play bets back.

If the dealer qualifies and you lose, then you lose both bets. If the dealer qualifies and you tie with the dealer, then the both bets are pushed.

Raise Bet Pay Table

If the dealer's hand qualifies, then you are eligible to win the Raise bet.

If you win and your score is 6 points or higher, then you win the Raise bet 1 to 1.
If you win and your score is 1 to 5 points, then you win 2 to 1 on the Raise bet.
If you win and score 0 points, then you win 4 to 1 on your Raise bet.

Three Card Rummy Strategy

The probability of the dealer getting 21 points or more and not qualifying is about 1 in 2.5 to 3 hands. This is the same likelihood that you will get a score of 21 or higher.

It depends on who you listen to, but because the dealer is very likely to have a qualifying hand, I would not automatically play any bet with 18 or more points in my hand.

If you have 17 points, you can feel a little more confident because that is much closer to a 50/50 chance of winning.

This all depends on how you feel. If your on a roll, by all means play the dealer with 20 points. If not, be a little more conservative and don't be discouraged when the dealer wouldn't have qualified.

Three Card Rummy Bonus Bet

You have the option of betting a bonus bet in addition to your Ante. Here is how this bonus bet works:

If you get a suited Ace-two-three, you are paid out 100 to 1. This sounds great, but there are only 4 possible combinations out of 22,100 so I wouldn't count on seeing this often.

If you get 0 points, you're bonus bet pays 25 to 1. There are a total of 92 possible combinations to get 0 points, or about once every 240 hands.

1 to 6 points pays 2 to 1 on the bonus bet. There are 2712 possible combinations to get between 1 and 6 points. The probability of getting this is about 1 out of 8 hands.

7 to 10 points pays 1 to 1. There are 3592 combinations of dealt cards that will win this bet. The odds are about one hand in 6.

11 or 12 points pays 4 to 1. It's kind of like a better to be lucky than good bonus. There are 644 possible card combos to get 11 or 12 points. This is about a 1 in 35 hand occurrence.

13 points and over means you lose. Whatever money you bet on the bonus bet is taken away. This has a 68.1% chance of happening or 1 out of every 1.46 hands.
